We are delighted to be working with a leading global financial services firm in their search for an Assistant VAT Manager to join their London-based tax team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented VAT professional to take the next step in their career within a dynamic and internationally focused tax environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing VAT compliance and managing VAT general ledger accounts across the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and reconcile VAT/GST general ledger accounts and prepare monthly SOX compliance documentation.
  • Prepare monthly UK VAT returns under a Partial Exemption Special Method (PESM), including:
  • Applying partial exemption methods.
  • Calculating annual capital goods scheme adjustments.
  • Reviewing reverse charge invoices and intercompany VAT treatment.
  • Compile VAT/GST return packs for non-UK jurisdictions (including Germany, Spain, France, UAE, Singapore, Japan, and others).
  • Assist with wider indirect tax obligations such as Spanish SII reporting.
  • Support finance teams (AP, controllers) with VAT matters.
  • Provide input into tax reporting and audit processes.
  • Contribute to tax risk management and maintain tax documentation.
  • Participate in global and local tax projects as needed.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Part-qualified or qualified in Tax or Accounting.
  • Solid accounting/bookkeeping experience, particularly with VAT accounts.
  • Experience with Partial Exemption Special Methods (PESM) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with VAT within the financial services sector is advantageous.
  • Exposure to VAT compliance across various international jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel is essential; experience with Workday is a bonus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships across the business.
  • Detail-focused, proactive, and able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
