We're looking for an

Assistant Syndicate Accountant

Based in our London office and reporting to the incumbent Syndicate Accountant, this role will sit within the Syndicate Finance team, working on the Hamilton backed Syndicate 4000.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide support to the senior members of the Syndicate Finance team in all aspects of Group and Lloyd's Regulatory reporting (reporting in US and UK GAAP respectively). Note, the day-to-day bookkeeping is outsourced to an offshore team based in India, and this is a key relationship to manage.

Our ideal candidate will be someone with recent experience in a Lloyd's managing agency or insurance company, or someone from professional practice with recent experience of London market insurance audits or transactions.

Hamilton Global Specialty is our multi-platform, specialty insurer operating primarily through a Lloyd's Syndicate and Dublin operating company with a managing general agency in the US.

What you will do

  • Assist in the production of core Lloyd's regulatory returns, ensuring that they are completed in accordance with regulatory timetables and guidelines
  • Assist in the production of ancillary returns to regulators
  • Oversight of the offshore bookkeeping team, ensuring that balance sheet controls and day-to-day bookkeeping functions are carried out in an accurate and timely manner
  • Sign-off of key reconciliations prior to Lloyd's reporting to an audit standard, appraising the Syndicate Accountant of any areas of concern
  • Trial balance preparation and maintenance, to include the RIESCO process for investments and cash assets
  • Assist in the maintenance and sign-off of SOX controls for Group reporting
  • Continually use the feedback loop to enhance processes
  • Interact with external audit teams by providing data and responding to queries

What you require for the role
  • A good understanding of best practice bookkeeping and ledger maintenance processes
  • Ideally working towards an accounting qualification
  • Be familiar with key elements of insurance accounting, particularly the nuances of Lloyd's reporting i.e. the Underwriting Year of Account allocation process and the Lloyd's Central Accounting process
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills in Excel and Word are essential
  • Knowledge of SUN general ledger and Q&A (excel add-in tool) would be an advantage
  • Good communicator (verbal and written), paying attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines
