Job description

Our Assistant Swimming Teachers are vital to the delivery of the Swim School and School Swimming programmes at our leisure centres. The lesson programmes are important from both a community engagement perspective and also for the contribution to the financial viability of the centres, enabling us to offer support to other programming activities.

As an Assistant Swimming Teacher, it will be your responsibility to support the wider teaching team to plan and deliver fun, engaging, and educational lessons following our scheme of work and guidance from relevant National Governing Bodies. This support will include assisting pupils from the water at lower stages.

The Assistant Swimming Teacher role is a developmental position, and as part of this, post holders will be supported to develop towards achieving their Swim England level 1 and level 2 Teaching Qualifications and the NRASTC rescue qualification. Further into their development, Assistant Teachers will be expected to deliver crash courses (with support) and progress on to cover existing classes.

You will also help with routine checks, housekeeping standards, and customer safety, especially for the class members in your charge during lessons.

As you go about your work, you will regularly interact with customers in a warm and welcoming way. You will often be the team member that customers build a relationship and trust with, and therefore you will have a great deal of responsibility for representing LeisureSK in a professional and efficient manner; remaining calm in difficult situations, being proactive in dealing with issues yourself where possible, or reporting immediately to management if not.

Swimming Teacher Responsibilities:
  • Deliver an excellent quality teaching service.
  • Maintain the standards of the Swim School brand in accordance with the Swim School procedures.
  • Organise, plan, execute, and evaluate a structured programme using the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway.
  • Ensure that the Swim School records (currently Learn2) are updated appropriately with attendance and assessment data.
  • Ensure all activities are FUN, and help promote a successful and caring image of the Swim School and the Company.
  • Support any other swimming-related activity as deemed necessary to provide a quality development programme.
  • Take opportunities to update and improve technical knowledge through continuing professional development and staff training.
  • Identify suitable pupils for exit routes to performance and excellence pathways.
  • Ensure a high standard of customer care is achieved at all times, adopting a warm and welcoming manner which encourages communication with customers.
  • Be aware of your responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure health & safety procedures are fully met to maintain a safe teaching environment for your pupils and other centre users/team members.
  • Have a full awareness of the Pool Safety Operating Procedure.

Please complete all questions before submitting your application. You must include full details of previous employment and also details of referees including full name and contact telephone numbers. Please also tell us in the relevant box how your skills and experience match what we are looking for.
