Assistant Service Manager

The Hartshorne Group is one of the leading commercial vehicle distributors for the West Midlands, East Midlands, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. We provide full parts & service facilities for Volvo Truck & Bus as well as new and used sales, plus a diverse range of associated services.

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an Assistant Service Manager to be based at our Potteries depot (ST5)

For this position ideally the successful candidate will ideally have a background in heavy commercial vehicles. The role requires operational and commercial knowledge, alongside the ability to multi-task and make proactive decisions.

The Role

To oversee the running of the workshop ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction. Ensuring that individual technician’s performance is optimised and work is progressed through in an efficient manner with the aim of first time fix every time. Ensure that daily disciplines and processes are implemented and followed for all staff on site.

  • Deputise for the depot manager when not on site.
  • Assist and guide the productive team with fault diagnosis and live job management.
  • Quality control and excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that daily disciplines and job card procedures are followed.
  • Communicate with the team to ensure the planner and customers are updated.
  • Staff development and apprentice mentoring.
  • Oversee health and safety in the workshop.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday 08.00am until 17.00pm with 1 in 4 Saturday mornings 08.00am until 13.00pm

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications required City & Guilds part 1 & 2 / BTEC / IMI in motor vehicle management (or equivalent) or equivalent practical experience in the commercial vehicle industry.
  • HGV / PSV Licence advantageous but not essential.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Able to problem solve effectively.
  • Enthusiastic.
  • Computer skills advantageous.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Well-developed leadership skills.
  • Extremely well organised and able to prioritise effectively.
