JOB TITLE: Assistant Risk Manager

SALARY: as per pay range

LOCATION: Leeds Wellington Place

ADDITIONAL LOCATION(S): Edinburgh New Uberior House

HOURS: Full Time – 35 hours per week

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

Job Description

Our team sits within Enterprise Risk Insights & Strategy (ERIS) which forms part of Enterprise Wide Risk Management (EWRM) within the Risk Chief Operating Office (Risk COO).

The role will involve a significant level of analytics and oversight and include the monitoring and associated reporting of our key Board Risk Appetite Metrics and Management Measures, using data to analyse and comment on trends whilst gaining rare insight into the Group’s risk profile. Your analysis will be used to help identify present and emerging risks as well as shape how Business Process Mapping can provide fresh insights into the Group’s risk landscape. As a team, we encourage each other to challenge existing practices and find ways to drive continuous improvement, acting as a key partner in the development of new tools and frameworks.

This opportunity would be ideally suited to an analytical and inquisitive mind, with excellent communication skills, a passion for learning and an appetite for engaging with colleagues across the Group. Working in our team would also provide excellent awareness of the Group’s risk and control profile as well as exposure to senior leaders. Overall, we’re looking for someone with a can-do attitude who is comfortable with data and enjoys working with others in a fast-paced environment.

Day to day responsibilities
  • Provide significant contributions to the collation and presentation of the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Report content, ensuring messaging is clear and fit for Executive and Board consumption.
  • Management and maintenance of key analytical tools using Power Automate, Excel, PowerBI and Tableau.
  • Proactive monitoring and management of Risk Appetite metrics and measures ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Specialist point of contact for resolving queries from a range of stakeholders and supporting ad-hoc data requests.
  • Champion the team’s automation, simplification and innovation agenda, seeking to increase capacity through continuously improving tools and processes.
  • Proactive collaboration with team members and partners in other teams across Risk Function and across the wider Group to evolve and improve reporting capability.
  • Proactive identification of areas for deep dive analysis to supplement Group reporting on a range of risk and control topics as the need arises.
What you’ll need

Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work with and influence effectively across different stakeholder levels, conveying potentially complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways. Proactively engages and anticipates stakeholder needs.

A team player who is comfortable working in a team with many priorities and able to collaborate to ensure deadlines are met in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for stakeholders, customers and colleagues.

Experience in using analytical techniques to extract and interpret large datasets to produce concise and insightful MI from raw data, with experience in producing high quality, accurate outputs suitable for senior audiences with exceptional attention to detail.

Excellent Excel, data manipulation and data visualisation skills (such as PowerBI and Power Automate), and the ability to transform data into compelling insight.

Awareness of the importance of risk management and control.
