Overview

Our client is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Estimator with at least 2 years of experience to join their multi-disciplinary practice based in London, as part of the Cost Consultancy team.

The Quantity Surveyor should have experience working with Developers or Contractors and be capable of producing Cost Plans from drawings and estimating building costs for town centre, high-rise, or mixed-use developments.

Duties

  1. Estimating from RIBA Stage 0 (initial concepts) through to RIBA Stage 5.
  2. Client liaison and attending design team meetings.
  3. Reviewing and analysing Main Contractor tender submissions and managing valuation certificates.
  4. Conducting cost exercises for clients.
  5. Implementing Value Engineering strategies.
  6. Package procurement and tendering.
  7. Cost benchmarking.

Experience (minimum 2 years post-degree)

  • New build residential developments (50+ homes).
  • Affordable Housing projects.
  • Cladding and fire remediation works.

Skills, Knowledge, and Understanding

  • Preparation of Cost/Benefit analyses of design options.
  • Collaborating closely with Project Managers & Directors.
  • Ensuring all costs are tracked and validated.
  • Supporting the bid team by producing accurate and competitive cost estimates.
  • Cost comparison and main contractor selection.
  • Tendering large subcontract packages.
  • Cost control, and preparation of periodic financial reconciliations, reports, and forecasts.
  • Handling correspondence related to commercial and contractual issues.
  • Understanding of JCT Design and Build contracts.
  • Negotiation skills with contractors.
  • Membership, or working towards membership, of RICS or MCIOB.
