Assistant Quantity Surveyor - General Construction

Your new role

Our client is seeking a confident and career-driven Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Manchester. You will support the delivery of construction projects from pre-contract through to final account, gaining exposure across a wide variety of schemes including education, healthcare, commercial, residential and public-sector refurbishments. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with 2-4 years' experience looking to work on diverse projects and progress towards full QS responsibilities.



Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, tender returns, and contract documentation

  • Supporting the management of subcontractor procurement and appointment

  • Preparing and processing interim valuations and payment applications

  • Monitoring project costs, variations, and cash flow

  • Liaising with site teams to ensure accurate financial reporting

  • Assisting in value engineering and cost-saving initiatives

  • Maintaining accurate records for project valuation and reporting

  • Supporting the preparation of final accounts and handover documentation

  • Ensuring compliance with contractual and commercial requirements

  • Attending site meetings, progress reviews and client briefings as required



What you will need to succeed:

  • 2+ years' experience in a quantity surveying role within construction

  • HNC, HND, or degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

  • Experience working on projects up to 5m in value

  • Strong numeracy and commercial awareness

  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office and quantity surveying software (e.g. Excel, Bluebeam, or similar)

  • A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn from experienced professionals

  • A full UK driving licence (desirable)
