Assistant Quantity Surveyor – £25k – 38k DOE plus benefits

Salary: £25k - £36k plus benefits
Location: London

My client has experience in the design and construction of quality apartments spanning social housing, luxury apartments, and inner-city developments, servicing both the private and public sectors. They bring financial strength and operational flexibility to offer a range of project delivery options to their Clients and partners. Their core product is medium to high rise RC frame apartment blocks [30 to 100 units]. They have secured a full pipeline of work to 2020 with tier one Housing Association providers in London [all G15 HA’s].

Main Purpose of Job

The Assistant QS’s role is to support the project QS and learn the systems. As the candidate learns the role, he/she will naturally take on more autonomy managing their own procurement of packages and interim sub-contractor payments with monthly cost reporting. Ultimately, the candidate will grow to promotion into the project QS role managing all commercial and contractual issues on his assigned project. The Assistant QS will support the Project QS in the day-to-day commercial activities on one project based between site and head office, c. 50/50 time split. There are clear and defined routes of progression though the company for the candidate. We believe in continued professional development, offering seminars as and when they arise to keep the Assistant QS current.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Preparing tender and contract documents
  • Undertaking cost analysis for tender returns on the project.
  • Assisting in establishing the client’s requirements.
  • Performing risk and value management and cost control.
  • Assisting in measuring elements
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks.
  • Allocating work to subcontractors.
  • Valuing completed work and arranging payments.
  • Preparing a monthly cost report.
  • Monthly sub-contract valuations
  • Monthly client valuations
  • Managing and guiding sub-team members

Candidate Specification

  • Minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Completed or working through a degree in quantity surveying
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Excellent Presentation and communication skills
