Job summary

Leading civil engineering main contractor is seeking to employ an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor level candidate, with experience of working with the NEC contract, to join their commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the financial and contractual performance of projects
  • Ensuring profit targets and efficiency savings are achieved
  • Administering change control and managing risks and opportunities
  • Conducting compliant procurement processes and managing supply chain relationships
  • Preparing and negotiating claims, and managing subcontractor payments
  • Attending project meetings and site visits to monitor progress
  • Maintaining accurate financial logs, cost plans, and project forecasts
  • Preparing monthly reports and attending cost review meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual terms and governance processes
  • Building and strengthening relationships with clients and commercial team members
  • Upskilling and supporting less experienced team members
Job Requirements:
  • Proven success in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveying role
  • Experience of working with the NEC form of contract
  • Experience of working on civil engineering projects within a contractor environment
  • Ability to work independently and manage conflicting priorities
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Resilience and flexibility in responding to changing priorities
You'll bring:
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in NEC contracts
  • Professional membership with RICS or CICES (desirable)
  • Experience in a civil engineering environment
  • Proficiency in cost management software and tools
  • Understanding of Lean principles (desirable)
