Job summary

Randstad CPE is recruiting on behalf of a well-established Main Contractor to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. You will join the commercial team, supporting project costs, commercial administration, and subcontractor procurement from post-tender through to final accounts.

Working alongside experienced QS and Commercial Managers, you will conduct site valuations, measure works, manage variations, cash flow forecasts, and cost reports while liaising with site teams and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Post-graduate degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or 1–3 years of hands-on commercial experience.
• Main Contractor background is essential.
• Strong understanding of contracts, take-offs, site measurements and cost management.
• Proficient in MS Excel, analytical, and able to liaise with site teams.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with subcontractor package procurement and commercial evaluations.
• Conducting site valuations, measuring completed works, and preparing monthly progress valuations.
• Supporting the management of project variations, compensation events, and final account negotiations.
• Maintaining accurate cost reports, tracking budget variances, and preparing cash flow forecasts.
• Collaborating with site management, project managers, clients, and supply chain partners.

Due to continued project wins and ongoing growth, they are looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

The Role

Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, you will play an active role in managing project costs, commercial administration, and subcontractor procurement from post-tender stage through to final accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assisting with subcontractor package procurement and commercial evaluations.

Candidate Requirements

• Education & Experience: Post-graduate degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management OR a few years (1-3 years) of solid hands‑on commercial experience.
• Main Contractor Background: Direct experience working with a Main Contractor is essential.
• Commercial Knowledge: Strong understanding of standard form contracts, take‑offs, site measurements, and cost management.
• Technical & Soft Skills: Proficient in MS Excel, strong analytical abilities, and clear communication skills to liaise with site teams and subcontractors.
• Availability: Ready to start ASAP.
