Our Water contractor client is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to help deliver a range of Thames Water AMP8 projects based out of Reading with hybrid working.

Overview:
Our client is expanding their team to deliver AMP8 projects for Thames Water, covering regions including the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, and Thames Valley. Projects vary from civil, mechanical, electrical, to infrastructure scopes, ranging between £2.5m and £25m, building upon existing AMP7 projects. This role offers a great opportunity to contribute to treatment works in this area.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and submission of main contract payment applications, support cash collection, assess subcontractor payments, and issue Pay Less Notices where applicable.
- Help prepare draft subcontracts, issue enquiries, review quotations, and utilize databases like Constructionline for pre-screening subcontractors.
- Support monitoring of subcontractor performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and standards.
- Assist in pricing variations, assessing cost impacts, including design changes.
- Participate in recording delays and preparing extension of time requests using programme knowledge and critical path analysis.
- Contribute to the settlement of main contract final accounts.
- Assist in data collection to monitor contract performance monthly and quarterly.
- Support the development of Trainee QS's through supervision and mentoring.
- Collaborate with the site team on plant allocation, utilization, and cost recovery.
- Assist in tender preparation, procurement, and pricing, especially for ECI projects.
- Help in cost forecasting and preparing CVRs for financial reporting.
- Interpret expenditure and cost reports to support financial analysis.
- Manage stakeholder expectations through clear communication on costs and project progress.
- Assist in submitting EWNs and early warning assessments to manage project risks.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Ability to read construction programmes and understand critical paths.
- Understanding of H&S issues at work.
- Knowledge of dispute resolution procedures.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and perform accurate measurements.
- Understanding of the relationship between bills, specifications, and drawings.
- Knowledge of construction contracts and subcontract terms.
- Ability to assess and value minor changes/variations.
- Basic industry contract knowledge.
- Understanding of construction risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience working on live projects, measurement, and valuation.
- Experience managing low-risk subcontractors and processing payments.
- Organizational and planning skills.
- Working towards professional accreditation (desirable): RICS, CIOB, ICES.
- Relevant CSCS card.
