Working within our Regional Civils division, you will be mainly site based at Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth. This will require security clearance due to the nature of the project and offers a fantastic opportunity to join the commercial team as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor on the project.

What you'll be doing

An Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) will have a good knowledge of quantity surveying duties and a successful track record in performing these duties. With support from more senior members of the commercial team, they will manage the costs of the works and ensure that their part of the project meets legal and quality standards.

They will also be responsible for the effective engagement and management of our supply chain. Typically, they will have a Quantity Surveying degree or be in the final stages of achieving this, with the intention of proactively following structured training programmes to achieve their professional qualifications from the RICS, ICES or CIOB.

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor and custodian of the commercial side of construction works, you’ll:

  • Have a good knowledge of and adhere to the Company’s GMCEs, BMS and other governance
  • Gather data & carry out research on current construction costs
  • Measure, record & value work supervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures
  • Seek out, locate and assemble pre and post contract documentation, complemented with the necessary administration skills
  • Be responsible for weekly and monthly works programmes
  • Have awareness of different programme formats
  • Use the company’s ERP System and BMS systems
  • Collate Cost and Value Information
  • Prepare Cost reconciliation statements
  • Collect information required to specify procurement requirements
  • Record and document information including registration of interest
  • Understand the steps / documentation required
  • Measure works and agree with subcontractors
  • Maintain a Personal Development Plan
  • Work towards professional membership from the RICS, ICES or CIOB
  • Support the development of others

  • BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge
  • CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
