The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key supporting role within their customer:focused Commercial team. Working under the guidance of an experienced Quantity Surveyor mentor, you will gain valuable, hands:on experience across all stages of the development process, building a career on solid foundations. You will contribute from day one, developing commercial awareness, negotiation skills and a strong understanding of construction techniques, materials and costs. They are looking for a confident, motivated individual who is keen to learn, flexible in their approach, and passionate about building excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and management of build costs, budgets and forecasts for residential developments.
  • Support the procurement process, including preparation of enquiry packs, analysing tenders, and compiling comparison sheets.
  • Assist with placing sub:contract orders, ensuring compliance with specification, budgets and best practice.
  • Help with the processing of sub:contractor payments, invoices and valuations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of variations and instructions, supporting the team in managing costs within budget.
  • Attend site visits to measure, record progress and support with monthly valuations.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, cost value reconciliations (CVR) and cost:to:complete forecasts under guidance.
  • Liaise with internal teams including Planning, Technical and Construction to ensure accurate and timely information is shared.
  • Support the Commercial team in maintaining strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop an awareness of Health and Safety regulations, industry codes of practice and company procedures.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably required to support the success of the Commercial team.

Skills And Qualifications
  • Ideally some experience of building construction, surveying or project management (placement year, apprenticeship or similar desirable but not essential).
  • A construction:related qualification (or currently working towards one).
  • Familiarity with material procurement and/or cost estimation for new developments would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge, or willingness to learn, construction techniques and materials.
  • Awareness of relevant Health and Safety requirements in the industry.
  • Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills : both written and verbal.
  • Confident IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office (knowledge of COINS advantageous).
  • Organised and able to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Proactive, adaptable and eager to learn.
  • CSCS card holder (or willingness to obtain).
  • A full driving licence.
