The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with 1-2 years experience post graduation looking to develop their career within civil engineering, working with an established infrastructure contractor. This is an excellent opportunity to form a solid base with the business before stepping into a QS role with succession planning from day one.

The Role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in delivering projects on time and within budget. You will gain valuable experience in cost control, contract management, and procurement, while working within NEC contract frameworks. This role will also give you exposure to pricing and winning work, giving you a rounded picture of the whole commercial journey. This role offers excellent career progression opportunities for a proactive individual keen to grow in the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the commercial management of projects in rail or civil engineering.
  • Support the administration of contracts under NEC contract principles.
  • Assist with cost reporting, forecasting, and financial tracking.
  • Work with subcontractor accounts, procurement, and payments.
  • Use framework agreements to support efficient project delivery.
  • Work with client and contractor portals to ensure smooth communication.
  • Provide support to senior team members and contribute to commercial decision-making.

About You:

  • Some experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within a contractor environment.
  • Background or strong interest in rail or civil engineering.
  • Basic understanding of NEC contracts and cost management principles.
  • Able to complete scoping, conditions of contract, take offs and BoQs.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a commercial team.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with digital portals and contract management tools is desirable.
