Job description

We are looking to strengthen our Commercial team with an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, based in Bournemouth with hybrid working available.

You will report directly to the Senior Quantity Surveyor. The purpose of your role as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor is to provide Quantity Surveying services and ensure that all contractual and financial entitlements are fulfilled. You will assist the Chief, Senior, and Quantity Surveyor in day-to-day activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  1. Assist the Managing QS and Quantity Surveyor in controlling costs, maximizing value, minimizing future liabilities, and maintaining quality and safety standards.
  2. Monitor and report on direct labour payments accurately.
  3. Report withheld, disputed, or disallowed costs and assist in resolving disputes.
  4. Monitor insurance claims and collate relevant cost information.
  5. Assist with subcontract preparation, measurement of interim & final accounts, and support the Quantity Surveyor in disputes related to subcontract accounts & claims.
  6. Expedite payments from the client.
  7. Maintain contract files and records, ensuring they are up-to-date.
  8. Assist in preparing cash forecasts.
  9. Ensure timely and accurate final accounts preparation.
  10. Collate financial information for audits and follow cost assurance processes.
  11. Ensure costs are collated according to the WBS and all cost base requirements are captured.
  12. Extract and correlate information from contract records for subcontract account valuation, claims, and variations.
  13. Assist in preparing progress payment applications to clients.
  14. Evaluate subcontractor applications.
  15. Communicate effectively with external clients & subcontractors.
  16. Coordinate effectively with internal contract, accounts, and QS staff.

Essential: Working or studying towards a formal qualification in Quantity Surveying. Possess a basic understanding of contractual, financial, and quantity surveying skills.

Desirable: Knowledge of the water/wastewater industry. Experience within a construction background is advantageous. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues affected by your activities.
