Role Overview

In a Nutshell…

We have a great opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team within Vistry Cornwall South West, at our site in Sherford, Plymouth. As our Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will assist in delivering our growing development pipeline in this area. Reporting to the Commercial Manager and working closely with a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial delivery of residential development schemes. Your responsibilities include cost management from procurement to the final accounts of sub-contracts. This is a key role, ideal for someone with experience in a similar role for a main contractor or developer in the region. The position involves occasional travel to our Exeter Head Office.

What we expect from you…

  • HNC / Degree in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management or equivalent
  • Understanding of building regulations and legal obligations
  • Knowledge of construction methods and materials
  • Strong mathematical and IT skills, especially in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to analyze information and manage budgets
  • Negotiation, networking, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, attention to detail, and a methodical approach
  • Willingness to work extra hours when needed

Desirable qualifications include HND or Degree in Construction, membership or progress towards membership of relevant professional bodies, and knowledge of COINS systems.

Role responsibilities include…

  • Attending site meetings and understanding construction drawings
  • Assisting with tender packages and analyzing tenders
  • Issuing and managing sub-contract orders and liaising with build departments
  • Providing forecast and budget information to meet reporting requirements
  • Controlling and reporting on post-contract cost movements
  • Processing invoices and applications for payments
  • Managing claims, variations, and final accounts
  • Using company systems for site administration
  • Maintaining safety standards and participating in training
