Job summary

Toppesfield Limited is seeking a proactive Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the Managing Quantity Surveyor with financial and project transactions. You will assist in reporting, cost control, and admin tasks across commercial activities on UK construction projects.

The role involves variations analysis, interim valuations, and providing input for monthly cost reports and forecasts. A proactive, analytical mindset and interest in construction are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of the role of a QS and an interest in construction.
• Analytical mindset and willingness to learn.
• Prior QS experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support the Managing Quantity Surveyor in preparing, maintaining, and processing financial and project transactions.
• Assist in compiling all required reports and schedules, and handle general commercial admin tasks.
• Manage and analyse project variations, including claims for loss and expense.
• Assist with interim valuations; value completed works and apply for payments.
• Support real-time monthly Cost Value reconciliations and forecasts for final outcomes.
• Attend site meetings with clients and contractors for initial survey and project development.
• Support Commercial and Sales team with admin tasks and other ad-hoc responsibilities.

Job description

Assist and support the Managing Quantity Surveyor in preparing, maintaining, and processing financial and project transactions

Assist in compiling all required reports and schedules, and perform general commercial administrative tasks, including filing, managing emails, and following up on communications via email and phone

Manage and analyse project variations, including any claims for loss and expense

Assist with carrying out interim valuations; value completed works and applying for payments

Support in providing accurate, real-time monthly reports (Cost Value Reconciliations) and forecasts for final outcomes

Assist with analysis of project costs and preparation of monthly cost reports and commentary for any variance

Attend site meetings with clients and contractors as required for initial survey and project development

Support the Commercial and Sales team with administrative tasks and other ad-hoc responsibilities

Whilst we desire the candidate to have previous experience, candidates are expected to have some knowledge of the role of a QS, an analytical mind and an interest in the construction industry
