Job description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established regional main contractor based in St Albans, who are looking to add an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to their growing commercial team.

With a strong reputation across the commercial, industrial, and educational sectors, this contractor delivers high-quality projects throughout the region, typically ranging from £500k to £5m in value.

Role Overview:

You will assist the project QS/Commercial Manager with the management of costs relating to building projects. This includes procurement, subcontractor management, valuations, variations, and final accounts, as well as supporting day-to-day commercial administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the preparation of tender and contract documents
  • Monitoring project costs and progress against budgets
  • Supporting procurement and commercial negotiations with subcontractors
  • Preparing and submitting interim valuations and final accounts
  • Maintaining accurate records and assisting in the preparation of reports
  • Working closely with site and project teams to ensure cost control and best value

Requirements:

  • Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or related field
  • 1–3 years’ experience with a main contractor preferred
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities
  • A proactive and organised approach to work
  • Full UK driving licence
