Assistant Quantitative Developer

Department: Actuarial

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: London

Description

Purpose

The purpose of this role is to assist Lancashire’s Advanced Analytics team in data management and providing insights into the Group’s modelled risk portfolio. The role requires solid front-end development skills, experience within the insurance market, and a high level of competence in data manipulation using SQL Server.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Assist Analytics to streamline existing processes by moving local scripts to a controlled front end for team use, as well as prototyping new business workflows.
  2. Collaborate with the Analytics, MI, and IT teams to seek platform efficiencies that address gaps in Analytics data.
  3. Assist in preparing reports for Ratings Agency and Regulatory submissions.
  4. Use SQL Server for extracting, importing, and updating submissions and risk modelling data.
  5. Perform reconciliations to identify data anomalies.
  6. Work on additional projects such as research tasks and platform improvements outside major renewal periods.
  7. Support the Actuarial team with technical pricing in Python.
  8. Perform any other duties as required.
Essential Skills & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Science, Maths, Computer Science).
  • Experience in the London Insurance Market.
  • Adept in data extraction and manipulation using T-SQL.
  • Understanding of Web Application development, JavaScript front-end development, and knowledge of Azure development for web and function apps; Azure DevOps experience is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of implementing APIs via RESTful Web Services.
  • Experience with catastrophe models is helpful.
  • Experience with Python is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel; Access and VBA are advantages.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
