The Blood Cancer Foundation of Michigan is seeking an Assistant Psychologist for a fixed-term contract at Brockfield House. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in forensic psychology, working with a multidisciplinary team to support patients with severe mental health issues. Brockfield House is a forensic low and medium secure inpatient unit for males and females with severe and enduring mental health problems who have been detained under the Mental Health Act. Patients present with a range of comorbid problems, including psychosis, personality disorders, and substance abuse. Patients often have a history of criminal offences, including convictions of violent and/or sexual offences.
We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Psychologist to join Forensic Psychological Services on a fixed-term contract of one year at Brockfield House on a full-time basis. This post is suitable for someone seeking to gain further experience in clinical or forensic psychology. The post holder will receive regular supervision with a qualified psychologist and will be supported to develop their understanding of psychological applications for various mental health needs.
Brockfield House has multidisciplinary teams comprising consultant psychiatrists, ward doctors, nursing staff, clinical, forensic, and counselling psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers. The psychology team aims to address patients' mental health needs and forensic risks through individual and group evidence-based interventions.
Post holders will have opportunities to observe psychological assessments and interventions, facilitate treatment groups, and independently conduct clinical work such as psychometric and neuropsychological assessments, risk assessments, and appropriate interventions under supervision. Training will be provided in relevant areas to support both this role and the post holder's career development.
Candidates should be enthusiastic and committed graduates eager to develop their clinical skills within a progressive team providing high-quality psychology services to individuals with severe and enduring mental health problems.
