Job description

The CAMHS Disability Service is a well-established part of Community CAMHS, offering a wide range of care pathways for children and young people aged 0-18 years, including moderate to profound learning disabilities, ASD, ADHD, and physical disabilities. Our services include specialist therapeutic interventions, neurodevelopmental assessments with post-diagnostic support, MDT and group interventions, duty and initial assessments, and brief, focused interventions for autism. We base much of our work on systemic and relational models, alongside behavioural techniques and various evidence-based approaches. Referrals are diverse, reflecting our local community which we are proud to serve.


Due to all assistants progressing onto training, an exciting opportunity has arisen for two assistant psychologists to join the CAMHS Disability Service at Hackney Ark. The roles involve coordinating diagnostic assessment clinics, completing supervised diagnostic assessments, supporting post-diagnostic support, and delivering Early Bird groups. We are an forward-thinking, passionate team supporting children and young people with disabilities and their families.


There are 2 full-time, permanent roles. If you are motivated and enthusiastic about working in CAMHS, particularly in assessment and group work related to ASD, ADHD, and LD, within a diverse, partnership-based delivery model in an outstanding NHS organisation, these are ideal positions to apply for.


The post holder will:

  1. Contribute to ASD and ADHD assessments, with or without LD.
  2. Hold their own assessment and group caseload for clinical supervision.
  3. Support and coordinate CAMHS clinics, plan and organise group schedules in advance, utilising administrative support.
  4. Support the clinical work of qualified staff related to diagnostic assessment, including reports, outcome measures, and group interventions, and develop clinical resources.
  5. Deliver evidence-based post-diagnostic group work and maintain a database for group-work and workshops as appropriate.
  6. Liaise closely with the designated Clinical Lead, MDT, and Psychology assistants for ASD.
  7. Assist with research projects, audit activities, and teaching, undertaking activities appropriate to the post under the guidance of the line manager.
  8. Be part of the CAMHS team, involved in all team activities as appropriate, such as Duty.
  9. Maintain clear records of referrals and all clinical activity (RiO).
  10. Plan and organise own workload under supervision, complete administrative tasks, and work flexibly to support clinical work.
  11. Undertake personal development activities as appropriate, under the guidance of the line manager.
