Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to support adults with learning disabilities within the Glasgow City HSCP Learning Disability Service. Working under supervision, you will contribute to assessments, interventions, research and service development in a multidisciplinary setting.

You will gain valuable experience across clinical settings while helping to deliver person-centred care.

Qualifications

• Must have an Honours degree in Psychology (First or 2:1).
• Eligibility for GBC of the British Psychological Society.
• Experience working with people, ideally in learning disabilities or related conditions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to engage with patients, carers and colleagues.
• Good grasp of psychological theory, research methods, statistics and evidence-based practice.
• Strong IT skills; proficient with Microsoft Office; able to work with databases.

Responsibilities

• Support qualified Clinical Psychologists in assessments and interventions for adults with learning disabilities.
• Assist with formulation and implementation of care and treatment plans.
• Contribute to planning and delivery of therapeutic groups.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join the Glasgow City HSCP Learning Disability Service within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your psychological skills while supporting adults with learning disabilities as part of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team. Working under the supervision of qualified Clinical Psychologists, you will contribute to psychological assessment, intervention, research, service evaluation and service development activities. You will gain valuable experience across a range of clinical settings while helping to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

• Full-time, Permanent
• You will be based at Castlemilk Social Work Office
• Working Pattern: Monday - Friday

Key Responsibilities

• Support qualified Clinical Psychologists in delivering psychological assessments and interventions for adults with learning disabilities
• Assist with the formulation and implementation of psychological care and treatment plans
• Contribute to the planning, coordination and delivery of therapeutic groups
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and work collaboratively with a range of healthcare professionals
• Assist with clinical audits, research projects, data collection, analysis and report preparation
• Support the development of psychologically informed resources, treatment materials and service improvement initiatives
• Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold professional and organisational standards of practice

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

• Applicants must have a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Psychology
• Applicants must be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society
• Experience, either paid or voluntary, where building relationships and working directly with people is a key aspect of the role
• Understanding of the needs and challenges experienced by people with learning disabilities, mental health difficulties or related conditions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with patients, carers and colleagues
• Good understanding of psychological theory, research methods, statistics and evidence-based practice
• Strong IT skills with experience using Microsoft Office packages and an ability to work with databases and data analysis systems
