This job is for an Assistant Psychologist position at the Health and Justice Directorate, Specialist Service Care Group.

The position is full-time and based at HMP Manchester. Responsibilities include clinical duties, workforce and service development, risk assessment and management, research, audit, evaluation, administration, and professional development. The post holder will work under the supervision of a clinical psychologist within a multidisciplinary team providing psychological and mental health care to offenders. The candidate should have strong clinical and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a challenging prison environment. A degree of 2:1 or above, accredited by the BPS, is required.

Main duties of the job

The role involves working with mental health teams and the prison to improve offenders' psychological well-being. Tasks include gathering information for formulations, supporting assessment development, evaluating Talking Therapies, contributing to understanding service-user presentation, and supporting psychologically informed practices.

  • Pay enhancements include 30% additional for evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays, and 60% for Sundays and bank holidays.
  • Annual leave starts at 27 days plus bank holidays, increasing to 29 after 5 years and 33 after 10 years.
  • Additional benefits include cycle to work scheme and salary sacrifice car scheme.

Registration

  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
