Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join the team at HMP Leeds, a busy category B prison located in Armley. HMP Leeds has a capacity of around 1,100 males.

This is a rare opportunity to join the team, working alongside the Regional Psychologist and wider team, delivering an outstanding service to patients. This role offers the chance to work in an ever-changing, challenging environment, which is hugely rewarding! You will be a key part of the mental health team, supporting the management of conditions such as PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, and Trauma.

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00.

Salary: Up to £32,346 per annum, depending on experience.

Support provided

Bespoke induction including Introducing Health in Justice training, competency framework, regional and national career development opportunities, learning management system, and support from the wider team.

Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK, and employment offers are subject to vetting and security checks.

Main duties
  • Support psychological care of patients throughout their journey
  • Run clinics, assessments, and 1-1 sessions
  • Prepare and deliver psychological group interventions
  • Provide assessments and interventions under supervision
  • Work with individuals with complex needs, managing challenging behaviors
  • Contribute to the ACCT process and CSIP plans
  • Monitor and report on patients’ mental health during interventions

Candidate requirements
  • A Degree in Psychology; a Master’s is beneficial but not essential
  • Experience in a paid Assistant Psychologist role, ideally in a prison, community, or psychiatric setting
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic groups and delivering psychological assessments and interventions (e.g., CBT, CFT, DBT)
  • Experience working in secure environments is a bonus, but not essential
