Job description

Job Title: Assistant Psychologist

Specific Hours: 16 hours per week (40 hours FTE)

Apple Orchard operates five homes in Surrey and West Sussex, each set in a rural location, providing a comfortable homely environment for young males aged 12-18 years. We are seeking an experienced Assistant Psychologist to join our Therapy team, specializing in assessment and intervention for adolescent males engaged in harmful sexual behaviour.

Our goal is to help young people develop insight into their experiences, enabling them to move forward from their often traumatic past. We support them in making sense of their lives by setting clear, safe boundaries and achievable goals, utilizing positive reinforcement strategies such as reward charts and free time.

Providing a nurturing environment that meets all basic needs to the highest standard is central to our work. We aim to create a warm, friendly atmosphere that emphasizes building supportive relationships and positive attachments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Processing and interpreting cognitive and personality assessments under the supervision of a Forensic Psychologist.
  2. Supporting all recording of work undertaken with the young males through extensive administrative skills.
  3. Providing feedback to young people, therapists, and staff as required.
  4. Inputting data, conducting analysis and research, and preparing case summaries and background reports.
  5. Holding a BSc degree in Psychology or an MSc (or working towards it), or having specific Psychometric training.
  6. Being registered with either BPS or HCPC.
  7. Engaging young people in activities and supporting them through their therapeutic journey.
  8. Challenging unacceptable behaviour, establishing firm boundaries, and providing care tailored to individual needs.
  9. Working effectively as part of a team.
  10. Following delegated tasks and handovers.
  11. Maintaining policies and procedures.
  12. Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  13. Producing well-written reports.
  14. Engaging and listening to young people.
  15. Having experience working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour is desirable, along with a willingness to develop further skills.
  16. Access to travel due to the rural location; a driving licence is desirable but not essential.
  17. Additional Benefits:
  • Company pension
  • Access to our Exchange Employee Discount Scheme
  • Wellbeing programmes via our Exchange Provision
  • Promotion opportunities
  • Fully funded training for recognized qualifications

If you are motivated to use your skills to create a caring and stimulating environment that offers a range of opportunities and life experiences for young people, we would love to hear from you.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All staff must share this commitment.
