Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join the Gloucestershire CAMHS Outreach Service, working with children and young people under 18 with complex mental health and social care needs. The service provides short-term, intensive, individualised care to prevent hospital admission and to support families in managing mental health crises at home. The MDT has expanded in size and remit, and you will join during a period of service development.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to clinical assessment and formulation of safety plans and evidence-based treatments for children and young people, under supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Engage in opportunities for individual case work, group work, audit and research.
  • Work closely with parents/carers and with professionals such as schools, Children’s Social Care (CSC) and Core CAMHS to ensure shared understanding and management of mental health needs and risks to keep the young person safe.
  • Be enthusiastic, motivated, able to manage time effectively, and ensure the voice of the child is central within care planning and clinical risk management.
  • Operate an out-of-hours service from 9:00–21:00, seven days a week, 365 days a year, with a shift pattern of four working days and three days off. Flexible to cover late shifts and weekends with enhanced pay where applicable.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Min 2(ii) honours degree in Psychology
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

Desirable

  • 2(i) honours degree in Psychology
Experience, Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, clinical sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals both within and outside the NHS.
  • Emotional robustness and ability to work with distress; recognise limits of competence and seek support when needed.
  • Ability to prioritise work and organise own diary.

Desirable

  • Prior experience with the service user group or in a clinical setting.
  • Experience with psychological testing equipment for formal testing situations.
  • Knowledge/experience of research methodology.
  • Practical knowledge of at least one relevant psychological approach (e.g., CBT) and experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
