Role Purpose

To conduct validation, verification, testing and proofing of explosive articles during the pre- and post-manufacturing phases to ensure that safety, compliance, and performance requirements are met. The role also involves the safe and compliant disposal of waste energetic and non-energetic materials generated during the manufacturing process.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct testing activities, including build standard verification and charge weight assessment
• Proof explosive articles using small and large calibre weapon systems, including artillery
• Record and analyse test results for technical review
• Safely dispose of waste materials using incineration, igniferous initiation, or pyrotechnic burn tanks
• Support root cause analysis, 5S/Six Sigma improvements, and internal/external audits
• Operate and maintain test equipment, tools, and fixtures
• Decontaminate areas exposed to riot control agents (CS Gas/PAVA)
• Assist with product inspections and demonstrate capability to stakeholders
  

Secondary Responsibilities

• Conduct demonstrations and pre-delivery inspections for suppliers and customers
• Assist in developing safe systems of work for new equipment
• Support training initiatives, including weapon handling tests (if qualified)
• Maintain and prepare targetry for test and demonstration use
• Perform any additional duties aligned with experience and training
  

Essential Criteria

• Full UK driving licence
• Reside within a commutable distance to Lincoln
• Physically capable of manual handling and operating heavy weapons
• Medically fit to wear PPE (including respiratory, eye, and hearing protection)
• No known allergies to CS Gas or PAVA
• Familiarity with Class 1 Dangerous Goods and relevant firearms legislation
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Experience in ISO-regulated manufacturing environments (ISO 9001, 18001, 45001)
• Strong attention to detail and record-keeping under pressure
• Proven problem-solving skills and willingness to develop new competencies
  

Highly Desirable Criteria

• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification
• Ordnance Munitions and Explosives Level 4 or equivalent
• ADR Dangerous Goods Driver (Core, Class 1) and Driver CPC
• First Aid at Work and/or Mental Health First Aid trained
• Military or law enforcement background:
• RLC Ammunition Technician (EOD No.2 Operator)
• RAF/RE/REME/RN Bomb Disposal
• Infantry (Pte–Cpl with minimum 4 years’ service)
• Familiarity with EOD equipment (Window Breaker, Rocket Wrench, EOD Injectors)
• Military Skill at Arms Instructor, Police Firearms Instructor, or NRA Club Coach
  

Desirable Criteria

• CSCS (Academically Qualified Person) or EOD Engineer (any level)
• National Rifle Association Range Control Officer
• Internal Auditor: ISO 9001 or ISO 45001
• European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent
• Marksmanship to 1-MOA standard
