Job summary

SSE plc in Scotland is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the construction and commissioning of a major transmission overhead line project between Fort Augustus and the Isle of Skye. The role bases from Scottish locations with three on-site days per week.

You will apply project management processes, manage risks and stakeholders, and support NEC contract administration while ensuring safety and quality standards across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Understanding of project management principles and practices.
• Experience delivering projects in transmission/construction/energy/utilities sectors.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Support safe delivery of projects, promote health, safety and environmental performance and ensure CDM compliance.
• Assist planning, monitoring and control of project activities to deliver on time, within budget and to required quality.
• Support NEC contract administration, contractor management and change control processes.
• Apply governance, reporting standards and tools throughout the project lifecycle.
• Undertake pre-construction and delivery activities including site visits, stakeholder engagement, risk management and issue resolution.

Base Location:

For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 3 full days per week on site between Fort Augustus and the Isle of Skye.

Salary:

£36,200 - £54,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We require an Assistant Project Manager to support the construction and commissioning of a major transmission Overhead Line Project. You'll play an important part in delivering the Skye Reinforcement Overhead Line Project (OHL), helping us create a safe, reliable network for the communities we serve.

You will

• Support the safe delivery of projects, promoting best practice in health, safety and environmental performance and ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and SSE's safety standards.
• Assist with the planning, monitoring and control of project activities and work packages, helping to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
• Support commercial and contractual activities, including NEC contract administration, contractor management and change control processes.
• Apply recognised project management processes, governance arrangements, reporting standards and tools throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with SSE's Large Capital Projects Governance Framework.
• Undertake pre-construction and project delivery activities, including site visits, progress monitoring, stakeholder engagement, risk and opportunity management, issue resolution and responding to technical queries.

You have

• A good understanding of project management principles and practices, supported by a qualification in engineering, construction, project management or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience supporting the delivery of projects within the transmission, construction, energy, utilities or other regulated sectors, gained within client, consultancy, contractor or subcontractor environments.
• An understanding of engineering or construction activities and associated health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM 2015 Regulations.
• Commercial awareness and experience of project governance, reporting and contract administration, ideally within an NEC contract environment.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate stakeholders and drive actions through to completion.

A full, current driving licence, with the ability to travel and attend site weekly.
