Job summary

Ford & Stanley Select is seeking an experienced geotechnical professional transitioning into project management. You will join a growing PM team to manage smaller geotechnical and ground investigation projects with mentoring from senior PMs.

You will coordinate field operations, manage resources, and ensure objectives are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably, with a clear path to a full Project Manager role.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering Geology, Geology, Physical Geography or related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering, ground investigation or rail projects.
  • Experience supervising field investigations or site teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing ground investigation and rail projects.
  • Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, plant and suppliers.
  • Support project planning, scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Monitor performance against programme, budget and quality.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders throughout lifecycle.
  • Prepare project documents and commercial updates.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Mentor geotechnical site teams and support senior managers.

Salary: £33,000 - £40,000 + Monthly Bonus incentives

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to transition from a predominantly site-based role into project management. Working within a growing project management team, you will manage smaller-scale geotechnical and ground investigation projects while receiving support and mentorship from senior project managers.

You will play a key role in coordinating field operations, managing resources, and ensuring project objectives are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. This position offers a clear pathway towards a full Project Manager role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the management and delivery of ground investigation and rail infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, plant, and specialist suppliers.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor project performance against programme, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and operational teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Prepare project documentation, reports, and commercial updates.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Mentor and coordinate geotechnical site teams.
  • Support the Head of Project Management and senior project managers in delivering larger projects.
Essential Skills
  • MEng, MSc, BEng, or BSc in Engineering Geology, Geology, Physical Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience within geotechnical engineering, ground investigation, or rail infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supervising field investigations, site teams, or subcontractors.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Desire to develop a long-term career in project management
