Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Project Manager to work within the Dungeness Decommissioning team responsible for demolition, dismantling and removal of plant and equipment.

This is a site-specific role at Dungeness to support, manage and deliver decommissioning work packages within the high priority boilers and ancillary plant workstream, working collaboratively with Senior Project Managers, and other members of the project team, site, and various other stakeholders.

The role of Assistant Project Manager requires the individual to have an understanding of the key drivers for project delivery, including governance, budgeting, and planning. Ideally the individual will have experience of delivering in a highly regulated sector.

Key Deliverables:

Contribute to the creation and coordination of overall project plans and monitoring activities, progress, and milestones against the plans

Support the preparation, delivery and coordination of project deliverables.

Support the consistent application of project procedures for performance of administrative, project and design tasks in accordance with NRS Project Management Process and Procedures.

Perform project management functions involving monitoring of progress, documentation of communications and meetings, and identification/evaluation of project issues and problems.

Assist in management and coordination of activities among all project functions and engineering disciplines in accordance with the established project baseline.

Support identification and evaluation of issues and events that may constitute an increase or decrease in project scope, cost, or schedule.

Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory & statutory requirements and company standards.

Communicate effectively with management, co-workers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum HNC/HND or equivalent technical qualification (NQF Level 5) in a relevant discipline (Essential).

2 years project management experience

APM Project Fundamentals Qualification or equivalent and willingness to obtain APM Project Management Qualification within 1 year of appointment (Essential).

Experience of performing functional tasks on projects with a basic understanding of Project Management process and procedures (Essential).

Ability to maintain high standards of performance with responsibility and accountability for successfully completing own assignments and tasks (Essential)

Experience of working in complex organisations (Desirable)

  • Flexible working – where possible.
  • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

Please be aware this role holder requires security clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
