Job summary

Metcalfe Plant Hire Ltd in Cumbria is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Management team in planning, coordination, and delivery of civil engineering projects. Location: Penrith. This full-time, permanent role offers a competitive salary dependent on experience.

You will work with Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to high standards, supporting external consultants, permits, RAMS, CPPs, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in the delivery of design and build and build-only civil engineering projects.
  • Coordinate and manage external consultants, including designers, surveyors, environmental specialists, and utility providers.
  • Apply for and manage traffic management permits and road space bookings with local authorities.
  • Obtain and coordinate environmental permits and approvals required for project delivery.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain Construction Phase Plans (CPPs).
  • Produce and review Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and produce regular programme updates using project scheduling software.
  • Assist with project planning, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure records are up to date.
  • Attend project meetings, prepare minutes, and track actions through to completion.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Support commercial and operational teams with project reporting and administration.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, health and safety regulations, and environmental standards.

Working with both public and private sector clients, we specialise in the successful delivery of design-and-build and build-only projects, with a strong focus on safety, quality, environmental compliance, and client satisfaction.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Project Manager to support our Project Management team in the planning, coordination, and delivery of civil engineering projects.
