Job summary

ZSL is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join the Capital Development team in London. You will support the delivery of Strategic Capital Projects across the London estate, coordinating actions, maintaining governance information, and assisting with business cases and presentations.

Hybrid role with 2–3 days on site at our London office. You will work with colleagues, consultants and authorities to inform scoping, procurement and delivery, strengthening capital projects across the estate

Purpose of the role

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will join our Capital Development team and support the development and delivery of ZSL's Strategic Capital Projects across our London estate. Working alongside the LondonCapital Development Manageryou will help progress projects from early design and development through governance and delivery, supporting projects that will shape the future of ZSL's estate and our conservation zoos.

You will play an important role in keeping projects moving, coordinating actions and stakeholders, maintaining project plans and governance information, and supporting the development of business cases, reports and presentations. You'll also contribute research and analysis to help inform project scoping, options appraisal, procurement and ZSL's wider estates strategy.

This is an opportunity to build your project management and strategy experience in a truly unique environment, working with colleagues across ZSL as well as consultants, contractors, planning authorities and other external partners. You'll gain exposure to the opportunities and challenges of planning and delivering capital development projects within London's complex urban environment, while contributing to projects with a lasting impact.

This role is hybrid, with 2 to 3 days per week expected on site at ZSL's London office.

Key responsibilities

• Project Coordination: Support the coordination of Strategic Capital Projects through early design, development, governance and delivery, tracking actions, dependencies, risks and key milestones to keep projects progressing.
• Project Management: Develop and maintain project plans, action and decision logs, risk and issue trackers and stakeholder plans, providing clear and accurate information on project progress.
• Governance & Reporting: Coordinate project governance requirements and support the preparation of reports, business cases, briefing papers and presentations to enable informed decision-making.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, local authorities and other external partners, coordinating information and actions throughout project development and delivery.
• Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improving project management processes, templates and ways of working across Estates Transformation, applying learning from projects to strengthen the delivery of ZSL's Strategic Capital and estate regeneration programme.

About You

• Previous experience supporting capital development functions or working within a project management team.
• Ability to prepare agendas, take minutes, produce reports and provide effective project administration.
• Familiarity working with and engaging a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Previous involvement working on capital development, regeneration, estate development or infrastructure projects within London, with an understanding of the challenges of working in a complex urban environment.
• Able to work efficiently and autonomously, managing priorities and progressing work with a high level of attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong analytical and comprehension skills.
• High levels of confidentiality, discretion and diplomacy.
