Job description

Start your career in project management with purpose

Are you looking for a role that offers development opportunities and the chance to make a real difference?

We are delighted to be recruiting an Assistant Project Manager to join the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Coordinating Centre. This is an ideal opportunity for someone starting out in project management, with a passion for planning, organising, and making an impact.

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables, and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies, and services. It provides those working in the NHS, public health, global health, and social care with the evidence they need to better support patients, the public, and people who need care.

Further information on the NIHR can be found at: www.nihr.ac.uk. We encourage you to review our operational priorities and watch our introductory video.

What will you be doing?

Role

In this role, you will support the development, planning, and implementation of projects and initiatives within the Southampton Coordinating Centre and across the wider NIHR. Key tasks include:

  1. Producing, updating, and managing project documentation to ensure smooth delivery and decision-making.
  2. Assisting with clear and effective communications, such as reports, presentations, and updates for key stakeholders.
  3. Coordinating and servicing meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on actions.
  4. Providing administrative support for projects, including monitoring of project plans and documentation, tracking deadlines, and conducting background research.

This role will provide you with hands-on experience and exposure to project management tools and methods, offering a solid foundation for your career.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in project management who is committed to their development. Previous experience is not essential, but we want someone who brings enthusiasm, curiosity, and a proactive mindset. You’ll need:

  1. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage your workload.
  2. Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in everything you do.
  3. Great communication skills, enabling you to build relationships and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  4. A flexible and problem-solving attitude when approaching tasks, with a willingness to learn and grow.

If you’re passionate about developing project management skills and contributing to meaningful work, we want to hear from you.

What can we offer you?

We recognise that our staff are at the heart of what we do, so we ensure you are well looked after! Along with a generous benefits package (full details here), we prioritise your wellbeing, as reflected in our Gold award for the Mind Workplace Wellbeing awards for the fifth consecutive year.

Our hybrid working approach supports work-life balance, allowing you to split your time between the office and home. We expect around 20% of your time to be spent in the office. We also support personal development through various initiatives.
