Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support wastewater network intervention programmes, coordinating with the Engineering Project Manager and wider team to manage civil interventions safely, efficiently and within budget.

The role involves site audits, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to project documentation, planning and handover processes. A great development opportunity in a large water utility.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting delivery or management of engineering, construction or operational projects or programmes.
  • Experience working with operational teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting project controls, including programme tracking, cost awareness, reporting and quality assurance.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing project documentation, including briefs, plans or handover information.
  • Experience within the water sector - ideally in wastewater network operations.
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements for construction works, including CDM.
  • Awareness of commercial delivery requirements, procurement, tendering and cost control.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of planned intervention programmes that reduce blockages, pollution and flooding across the wastewater network.
  • Coordinate day‑to‑day programme delivery, reporting and project controls with the Engineering Project Manager.
  • Establish and promote a proactive Health, Safety and Environment culture, including review and assurance of key project H&S documentation.
  • Undertake site audits to monitor health, safety, quality and delivery standards, ensuring findings are recorded, escalated and followed through to closure.
  • Assist in achieving all regulatory, statutory and internal outputs, deadlines and targets.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders to support clear communication, timely escalation and positive customer outcomes
  • Develop project briefs and supplementary information to support early contractor involvement and delivery planning.
  • Review and contribute to approval of key project documentation, including PCI, project plans, CPP, commissioning plans and handover information.
  • Support contractor performance assurance to help deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to required quality standards
  • Oversee commissioning and handover of completed projects to the operational client.

We currently have an opportunity as an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of our wastewater network planned intervention programmes. These include including sewer rehabilitation, interceptor removals and low complexity excavation repair works.

This role is a great development opportunity and works closely with the Engineering Project Manager and wider Engineering Solutions team to help manage civil engineering interventions safely, efficiently and in line with programme, cost, quality, regulatory and stakeholder requirements.

What you'll be doing as an Assistant Project Manager
  • Support delivery of planned intervention programmes that reduce blockages, pollution and flooding across the wastewater network.
  • Work with the Engineering Project Manager to coordinate day‑to‑day programme delivery, reporting and project controls.

Experience and requirements
  • Experience supporting the delivery or management of engineering, construction or operational projects or programmes
  • Experience working with operational teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting project controls, including programme tracking, cost awareness, reporting and quality assurance.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing project documentation, including briefs, plans or handover information.
  • Experience within the water sector - ideally in waste water network operations.
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements for construction works, including CDM.
  • Awareness of commercial delivery requirements, procurement, tendering and cost control.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own transport.
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have
  • Experience supporting sewer rehabilitation, interceptor removal or excavation repair programmes.
  • Engineering or project management qualification.

  • Salary £39,455 to £50,000 depending on skills and experiences.
