Job summary

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support a Programme Manager in delivering the SMR programme across Derby, Manchester or Warrington. The role focuses on delivering projects safely, efficiently and to high quality standards within a highly regulated engineering context.

The successful candidate will help develop plans, monitor performance and costs, and collaborate with engineering, commercial, procurement and regulatory teams.

Qualifications

  • APM PMQ or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in engineering, infrastructure, energy or regulated environments.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, manage risk and controls.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced setting.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI or SAP.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules and delivery activities to hit milestones.
  • Monitor performance, risks, issues and opportunities with mitigation and escalation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, commercial, procurement and regulatory teams.
  • Support governance, reporting requirements and decision making.
  • Assist with cost management, forecasting and budgeting.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned.
  • Ensure safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met.

Assistant Project Manager

Location: Derby, Manchester or Warrington
Salary: base salary range is £42,000.00 - £55,150.00 depending on experience

Working across complex engineering, regulatory, procurement and construction activities, the team drives collaboration, innovation and delivery to help bring a new generation of nuclear power to life.

Role Overview

In this context, we are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to support a Programme Manager in delivering key projects across our SMR programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a direct role in one of the UK's most ambitious engineering programmes, helping to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and management of project plans, schedules and delivery activities to achieve key programme milestones
  • Monitor project performance, risks, issues and opportunities, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation where required
  • Collaborate with engineering, commercial, procurement and regulatory stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes
  • Support project governance activities, reporting requirements and decision-making processes
  • Assist with project cost management, forecasting and budget tracking activities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned and the development of project management best practice
  • Ensure activities are delivered in line with safety, quality and regulatory requirements
Candidate Profile
  • A recognised project management qualification, such as APM PMQ, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience supporting or delivering projects within engineering, infrastructure, energy, construction or other highly regulated environments
  • An understanding of project planning, scheduling, risk management and project controls processes
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience using project management and reporting tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, SAP or similar systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail
Location

We offer hybrid working arrangements and expect regular attendance at one of our Rolls‑Royce SMR locations in either Manchester, Derby or Warrington. Occasional travel may be required to support project and stakeholder activities.
