Job description

The Department of Physics at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor (Nuclear Fusion). The successful candidate will be a member of the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation (CfAI).

About the Role

We welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests in magnetic confinement fusion, ideally in diagnostics for fast particles and/or MHD instabilities. The candidate will contribute to the Fusion Power Centre for Doctoral Training, of which Durham is a member.

Candidate Requirements
  • Demonstrate high-quality research outputs in nuclear fusion diagnostics.
  • Engage in university services, citizenship, and values.
  • Strengthen collaborations with UKAEA projects such as MAST Upgrade and STEP, and internationally in both academia and the private sector.
  • Contribute to research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Participate in academic assessment and advisory activities.
Research Group and Department

The Centre for Advanced Instrumentation is a major research group within the Department of Physics, comprising 10 staff, 39 research staff, 2 support staff, and about 20 postgraduate students. More information can be found at:
