The Institute of Criminology seeks to appoint a Temporary Assistant Professor in Penology and Criminal Justice. This is a full time, 12-month fixed term position, commencing 1st October 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). This post offers an exciting opportunity to join the Institute of Criminology, one of the oldest Institutes of Criminology in Europe and also among the strongest criminology departments globally with respect to the scope and impact of its research, the quality of its academic support infrastructure, and the talent of its students.

The appointee will cover the majority of Professor Ben Crewe's teaching, marking and supervisory duties on the MPhil in Criminology and contribute to the MSt in Applied Criminology, Penology and Management course whist he is engaged on a Leverhulme Research fellowship.

We are looking for someone with specific expertise on prisons, penology and/or criminal justice, who will make a substantive contribution to the teaching, marking and supervisions of the MPhil programme, as well as contributing towards the MSt programme for senior justice practitioners.

The appointee will have a firm commitment to the development of innovative course material and the delivery of high-quality teaching as well as a developing bibliography of research publications.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months.
