Full time starting salary is normally in the range £46,735 to £55,755 with potential progression once in post to £62,728.
As this vacancy has limited funding, the maximum salary that can be offered is Grade 8, salary £52,566.

Background
We are seeking to appoint a criminologist as Assistant Professor to expand our vibrant Department of Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology.
This post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join our Department. The Department is located within the University of Birmingham’s School of Social Policy and Society, part of the College of Social Sciences.
Applications are invited for the Assistant Professor in Criminology, available from 1st September 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to criminological and interdisciplinary research across the Department.
Potential candidates should have a doctorate, be research active, and possess excellent administrative and teaching skills.
Role Summary
You will contribute to education and research activities, develop mutually respectful relationships with staff and students, and positively impact the department.
Teaching responsibilities include managing, developing, and delivering courses at all levels, enhancing student experience and employability, and providing expert advice to colleagues and students.
Research responsibilities involve producing original research to enhance the national and international reputation of criminology at Birmingham, including impact activities and policy contributions.
Management and administrative duties include developing knowledge transfer, enterprise, public engagement, widening participation, and outreach activities.
