Job summary

Assistant Professor

Salary is no less than £68,087 per annum (pay award pending) and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website.

Applications for this new post are invited from outstanding candidates in the field of data science and statistics. Successful candidates will join an established and successful department and contribute to its research and teaching in data science and statistics. The post is tenable from 1 September 2027.

You should have expertise and research interests in statistics, data science, or machine learning. You will have a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications, proven ability, as evidenced by existing publications, or potential to publish in top conferences or journals. You will also have a clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications.

You must have a completed PhD, or close to obtaining a PhD in statistics or related areas such as computer science or mathematics by the post start date.

We welcome applications from candidates who are keen to collaborate with colleagues with complementary research interests, both from within the Department and from other departments in the School. The Department has research expertise across different areas, including data science, probability in finance and insurance, social statistics, and time series and statistical learning. The School provides opportunities for research collaboration through the new Global Institute for Technology and Society, and other institutes.
