LOCATION: Salford - Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £30,000 -£40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role is part of a team of Production Accountants and Assistant Production Accountants who, although being part of a wider finance community, are embedded within production departments, working closely with the Production Management teams. The purpose of this role is to:

Support the Production Accountant in managing the financial control of a production/ slate of productions

Work with the Production Accountant and Production Accounting Manager to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate financial information to support effective cost management of productions

This is an exciting opportunity, supporting our vibrant and creative Kids & Family productions. As an Assistant Production Accountant, you will be part of a collaborative and supportive finance team working closely with Production Management to help bring world-class content to life.

We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds, even if you don't have prior production experience. This is a growth-focused role with full training provided, offering the chance to develop your skills while working across multiple productions. You'll gain hands-on experience in production finance, build strong working relationships across departments, and contribute to the success of some of the UK's most beloved children's programming

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Support Financial Reporting: Assist in recording transactions, maintaining ledgers, and preparing weekly cost reports to support accurate production cost tracking.
  • Purchase Management: Maintain purchase order logs, ensure accurate data entry, and liaise with suppliers to resolve discrepancies, following BBC Procurement guidelines.
  • Freelance & Talent Payments: Provide administrative support for booking and paying freelance crew, processing expense claims, and managing Supporting Artist payments.
  • Cash & Banking: Assist with production bank accounts, petty cash, Barclaycard management, and prepare reconciliations and finance reports.
  • Compliance & Controls: Ensure all costs are properly authorised, documented, and recorded in line with BBC policies, maintaining strong audit trails.
  • Asset & Record Management: Maintain the Production Asset Register and support the preparation of statutory reports such as Section 16.
  • Team Collaboration & Development: Work closely with the Production Accountant and wider team, contributing to a collaborative environment and actively engaging in personal development.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Vocational training/experience within financial or accountancy field.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles, practice, controls and compliance requirements.
  • Able to present and communicate finance information in a clear and concise written and verbal format to finance and non-finance people.
  • Numerate with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy in key computer packages such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
  • Experience in working in a production environment within a media organisation
  • Working towards recognised accounting qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent
