An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 4 Radiography Assistant Practitioner in the cardiac MRI department at Leeds General Infirmary. The successful candidate will support a team of radiographers, engage in patient care, and contribute to research and training within a leading center of cardiac MRI excellence.
Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 4 Radiography AssistantPractitioner to join the busy cardiac MRI department (CMR), based at LeedsGeneral Infirmary.
TheCMR unit performs over 3500 examinations a year at its state of the artfacility. The unit is a leading Centre of Cardiac MRI excellence in theUnited Kingdom and it is at the forefront of the modality throughout theworld through its high impact research publications, clinical scanning andeducational training.
TheService is provided over an extended day, typically 8am to 8pm Monday toFriday and 8 am until 5pm Saturdays.The post holder will undertake a clinical support role, supporting thesmall team of Cardiac MRI radiographers, Cardiac MRI radiographic assistantsand clinicians within the department. This post will be based at the LeedsGeneral Infirmary.

Themain responsibilities will be the day-to-day aspects of patient care;screening and preparation of patients for their examination; generaladministrations tasks and to be familiar with Trust local rules for MR safetypertaining to the assistant role. There will also be a requirement to managethe training of new staff and overseeing of their induction, initialdevelopment and continued day to day management. A command of basic computerskills is essential and familiarity with current Trust systems a desirableadvantage.
TheCMR service has a strong Research focussed element. Whilst also maintainingthe balance of the clinical service provision, the successful candidate willbe expected to contribute to this discipline by liaising directly with theresearch consultants, their fellows and the research nurses to facilitate theoptimal use of scanning time and resources and assist the accurateadministration required to support such studies.
NVQqualifications in General healthcare support level 3 & Diagnostic andTherapeutic support level 3 would be advantageous

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
ClinicalResponsibilities:
To act as a point of advice forpatient enquiries regarding their referral providing this falls within theirsphere of work.
To ensure patients have giveninformed consent prior to radiographic examinations.
Applying a high level of manualdexterity in acquiring accurate, high quality diagnostic images within theirscope of practice.
To match the clinical indicationspresented by the referrer to an appropriate departmental protocol afterdiscussion with a Senior Radiographer.
To seek assistance andclarification where necessary regarding supplementary imaging procedures.
To ensure appropriate infectioncontrol measures are utilised where necessary. Paying particular attention topersonal protection as well as the management of equipment and linenscontaminated by bodily fluids.
To be responsible for the care,comfort and clinical well-being of the patient, whilst in the imagingdepartment. This includes the monitoring or administration of oxygen undersupervision.
OperationalResponsibilities:
To effectively liaise with alldisciplines of staff within the imaging department, giving support whennecessary.
To participate in the safe transferof patients and equipment within the department and hospital, using manualhandling guidelines and risk assessments.
To report deficits in the dataintegrity of the IT systems in use in cardiorespiratory & the Trust.
To attend departmental meetingswhere needed.
To report clinical, non-clinicaland MRI incidents in line with Trust and departmental risk managementpolicies.
To enter accurate patient andexamination data into cardiorespiratory IT systems.
To ensure that equipment faults arereported to the relevant senior radiographer.
Attend to patients hygienerequirements.
Healthand Safety:
To be responsible for the care andcleanliness of radiographic equipment and accessories within their own workarea. To monitor equipment performance, fittings or fabric of the departmentand follow identified lines of reporting.
To be aware of, and comply withsystems of work, local rules, policies and procedures in accordance with MHRASafety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment in Clinical Useto ensure the safety of themselves, patients and members of the public.
To be responsible for the healthand safety of self, patients and others and display knowledge andunderstanding of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations and assist inensuring that all work activities comply.
To ensure compliance with infectioncontrol procedures within their clinical area.
To undertake all mandatory trainingrequired for the role, including regular updates in Fire, Moving &Handling and CPR, as required by Clinical Radiology and Trust Health andSafety Policies.
To be aware of the risks associatedwith this role and comply with the control measures in any relevant RiskAssessments.
To work within the policies andframeworks of the clinical area in which they are based.

To assess specific communicationneeds of individual patients, where there may be barriers with communication.
To communicate effectively andempathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after anexamination.
To work as part of themulti-disciplinary team within the imaging department, taking responsibilityfor defined tasks as determined bysenior staff.
To maintain effective written,electronic, verbal and non-verbal communication and relationships as a memberof a multi-disciplinary team.

To keep accurate and timely recordsusing computerised information systems where required.
To utilise computerised picturearchiving and communication systems for completed examinations (in depts withPACs).
To use all equipment according tomanufacturers instructions and follow appropriate lines of reporting anddocumentation of any faults in accordance with local rules.
To participate in audit projects,including gathering evidence for best practice assessment, either of theirown work, that of the department or others, as required.
Personal& Professional Development:
To undertake on-going professionaltraining and education.
To participate in personaldevelopment needs that may be identified by the superintendent or in theappraisal process in an agreed timeframe.
OTHERDUTIES
General
To undertake clerical duties asrequired including registering of patients, bookings, update of and retrievalfrom departmental IT systems of recorded patient / participant data and allother associated information.
