Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the employer for this role. 56 Dean Street is an award winning HIV and Sexual Health service based in Soho in the heart of London's West End. We are looking for a skilled and dynamic Assistant Practitioner to join our team.

The main aspect of the role is results management that includes the recall of patients with sexually transmitted infections requiring treatment, and/or partner notification. The role also encompasses clinical duties including direct patient care under supervision. This involves assisting the multi professional team in the delivery of a high standard of care to patients attending for Sexual, reproductive and HIV health care. Other aspects include housekeeping and administration duties which involves overseeing the maintenance of a safe environment for both patients and staff. As an Assistant Practitioner you will have a role in the mentoring and leadership of more junior members of the team.

We are looking for individuals who are motivated, enthusiastic and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work with a team in an innovative sexual health setting.

In return you will join a team of friendly skilled experienced Health Advisors, Doctors, sexual health / HIV nurses, and admin staff responsible for delivering a high standard of care to patients. We have a full in-house and Multidisciplinary Education programme.

The post holders will be expected to work flexibly within the clinic and includes evening and weekend work.

Job responsibilities
  • Roles and responsibilities: To assist the Registered Nurse/Health Advisers/Doctors in their main daily responsibilities.
  • To work flexibly within 56 Dean Street and Dean Street Express services
  • To assist in the recall of patients with sexually transmitted infections requiring treatment and/or partner notification
  • To be part of the text service for patients sending negative results and results requiring action
  • The role will involve direct patient care, clerical, reception and administration duties and overseeing of the maintenance of a safe environment for both clients and staff
  • The post holder works under the supervision of the Nursing and Health Adviser team
  • To supervise the ordering and stock levels of medical supplies
  • To provide training and leadership to the Health Care Assistants and participate in the mentorship/management of the Health Care Assistants
  • To work within boundaries of existing competence and develop skills at all times
  • The post holder is expected to maintain high standards of care, managing their time, tasks and resources effectively
  • To ensure that the environment of the clinic is clean, tidy, safe and welcoming to patients. We have evening clinics and work Saturdays. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly including Sundays if the service expands to a seven days week

Person Specification
Education and qualifications
  • Demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills
  • Evidence of further education at NVQ level or above
  • Evidence of Secondary Education
  • Knowledge/skills within sexual health and HIV
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience within an NHS admin or clinical role/setting and/or equivalent experience providing customer care
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Clinical experience in HIV/GUM field. To have a basic knowledge of STI's and HIV
  • Experience of co-ordinating a patient focused results service
  • Experience of telephone work with patients
Skills and knowledge
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of equality and diversity
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of the importance of confidentiality; Knowledge of Information Governance and Risk management in the NHS
  • Good Keyboard/IT clerical skills including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in the whole speciality
