Job summary

Agricultural and Farming Jobs Agency seeks an Assistant Poultry Farm Manager for a South Gloucestershire broiler operation. The role supports the Farm Manager in daily poultry production, welfare, biosecurity and farm performance in a hands-on environment.

You will oversee housing setup, daily checks, ventilation, feeding, vaccination, and liaise with vets and contractors while ensuring safety and compliance across the farm.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial broiler production and poultry farming.
• Strong understanding of bird welfare and biosecurity.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day running and management of the poultry farm.
• Set up poultry houses for chicks and carry out daily checks on housing and birds.
• Manage ventilation, feeding and vaccination for birds.
• Monitor welfare, health and farm performance.
• Maintain high biosecurity standards across the farm.
• Complete daily checklists and quality control paperwork.
• Coordinate with vets and contractors to improve welfare and performance.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and farm assurance standards.
• Provide relief support to other farms when required.

Assistant Poultry Farm Manager - The Job Role Details:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Poultry Farm Manager to support the day‑to‑day management of a commercial broiler poultry farm.

Working closely with the Farm Manager and wider farm team, you will help oversee all aspects of poultry production, ensuring excellent standards of bird welfare, farm performance, biosecurity, health and safety and compliance.

This is a hands‑on position offering plenty of responsibility and the opportunity to play an important role in the successful operation and performance of the farm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the day‑to‑day running and management of the poultry farm
• Set up poultry houses for chicks and carry out daily checks on housing and birds
• Manage general bird husbandry including ventilation, feeding and vaccination
• Monitor bird welfare, health and farm performance
• Maintain high standards of biosecurity across the farm
• Complete daily checklists, records and relevant quality control paperwork
• Manage litter and oversee feed requirements
• Work alongside veterinary professionals to continuously improve bird welfare and farm performance
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and farm assurance standards
• Maintain safe working practices for employees, visitors and contractors
• Liaise with customers and external contractors when required
• Carry out basic farm and equipment maintenance
• Ensure health, safety and environmental procedures are followed
• Support and oversee other farm and relief staff
• Provide relief support to other farms when required
• Complete mandatory Poultry Passport training and ensure relevant staff obligations are met

Essential Candidate Skills & Experience:

• Previous commercial broiler poultry experience
• Excellent understanding of bird welfare and poultry management
• Practical experience within a poultry farming environment
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with farm staff and contractors
• Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and keen to take responsibility
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider farm team
• Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable:

• Relevant agricultural qualification
• NVQ in Poultry Production
• Poultry Passport
• Tractor experience/licence
• Telehandler experience/licence
• Forklift experience/licence
