Job description

BAM Nuttall is seeking to recruit an Assistant Planning Engineer to strengthen their existing team, delivering large civil engineering projects across Scotland. The role is suitable for Civil Engineers interested in transitioning into a planning role with training provided, or Assistant Planners seeking further development. Projects focus on energy infrastructure, including building substations and HVDC converter stations to support Scotland's transition to net zero. The position can be based out of Kilsyth (Glasgow), Inverness, or local project offices.

Your mission

As an Assistant Planning Engineer, your responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting the Planning Engineer in developing and maintaining detailed programmes in P6.
  2. Assisting in managing sub-contractor programmes alongside own programmes.
  3. Interpreting information from tender and project documentation.
  4. Understanding civil construction techniques and developing them into workable programmes with support.
  5. Coordinating with estimators and commercial teams on programme aspects.
  6. Preparing narratives, phasing, reports, and documents for tenders and projects.
  7. Using planning techniques and tools to communicate programmes effectively.
  8. Communicating programme information, risks, and commercial issues to operational teams in various formats.
  9. Participating in collaborative planning workshops with clients, teams, and subcontractors as required.
  10. Monitoring project progress and compiling reports against requirements.
  11. Assisting in analyzing changes in programmes and supporting commercial teams.
  12. Evaluating supply chain and subcontract programmes.
  13. Adhering to business processes and systems.
  14. Keeping updated on the latest construction techniques.
Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. At least 2 years of UK-based civil engineering construction experience.
  2. A qualification in Civil Engineering/Construction to HND level or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
  3. Proficiency in planning software (training available).
  4. Effective communication skills.
  5. Strong logical thinking and organized working approach.
  6. Ability to work within challenging timescales.
  7. Understanding of planning techniques.
  8. Tender experience (advantageous).
  9. Good commercial and contractual awareness.
