Job summary

Fawkes & Reece (North) is seeking an Assistant Planner to join the Land & Planning team in the West Midlands. You will assist planning appraisals, submissions, and related applications within the residential sector, reporting to the Planning Manager and supporting a dynamic development pipeline.

The role requires RTPI-accredited planning education (preferred), strong communication, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Degree or masters in planning with RTPI accreditation preferred.
  • Experience in development management or planning policy is desirable.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and presentation ability.
  • Valid UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Produce site assessments and analyse planning histories to support appraisals.
  • Prepare and manage Outline/Full and Reserved Matters applications and conditions.
  • Liaise with internal designers, external consultants, and local authorities during submissions.
  • Prepare Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and related documents.
  • Organise supporting information and participate in stakeholder/public consultations.
  • Develop planning strategies to promote medium/long-term development sites.
  • Monitor local plan progress and relevant policy documents.

Salary: GBP40000 - GBP45000 per annum


A leading house builder have a requirement for an Assistant Planner to join their Land & Planning team based in West Midlands.


Reporting to the Planning Manager you will assist planning and development appraisals, planning submissions and other related applications within the residential sector for both immediate and strategic sites.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • " Producing site assessments, detailed examination of planning histories, policy analysis, interpretation and consideration of material considerations, and new site appraisals for immediate and strategic sites in a timely manner to meet required deadlines to maintain the relationship with the Land team and protect the interests of the company.

  • " Prepare and project manage different types of planning applications from Outline/Full and Reserved Matters to the discharge of planning conditions accurately so that the Region can maintain new sites to develop

  • " Liaise and brief internal layout designers, external consultants and officers at local planning authorities prior, during and post submission in order to develop strong working relationships

  • " Prepare Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and a range of other planning documents required to support applications accurately and on time so the business can continue to achieve the necessary planning approvals

  • " Organise supporting information and attend required stakeholder/public consultation events with professionalism at all times to build confidence with the general public

  • " Formulating planning strategies to promote medium and long term development sites through the plan-making process under the guidance of the Planning Manager to continue a pipeline of new sites for the region

  • " Monitor development plan progress and associated evidence based and policy documents within each local planning authority area


What experience, qualifications and skills are we looking for?



  • " Previous experience working in the private or public sector in the field of development management / planning policy

  • " Degree / Masters Planning Degree with an RTPI accreditation and a rounded knowledge of town planning preferable, but not essential

  • " Ability to adapt to change and to work accurately, efficiently and be commercially minded

  • " Excellent verbal communication skills

  • " Full UK driving licence
