Job title: Assistant (Pipeline) Engineer
Pay rate: £250 - £300 per day
Duration: 3 months temp
Working pattern: remote working, Mon - Fri 9am to 5pm
Start date: end of June / start of July

Are you ready to take the next step in your engineering career? Our client is seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Engineer (Mechanical Integrity) to contribute to the development, evaluation, and delivery of engineering solutions for pipelines and pressure systems. If you have a passion for technical challenges and compliance with legislative requirements, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing and maintaining Gas Transmission processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Responding to customer inquiries regarding work adjacent to the Transmission System (NTS) and issuing decisions based on thorough reviews.
  • Supporting Operations to ensure safe execution of work in proximity to NTS.
  • Consulting with various stakeholders, including Operations, Legal, and Local Authorities, to review applications and permit developments.
  • Operating within a small team to achieve business objectives and enhance performance.
  • Reviewing technical reports and data to inform asset management decisions.
  • Leading initiatives to improve gas transmission asset reliability and performance.
  • Engaging with external bodies to maximize business value.
To excel in this role, you should have:
  • Experience in customer-facing roles, handling enquiries from landowners, local authorities, and stakeholders, including planning permission and site-related questions.
  • Ability to assess and review plans, proposals, RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), and understand potential impacts on key infrastructure or stakeholders (e.g., MPs).
  • Strong practical knowledge of onsite construction activities, ideally with exposure to network infrastructure projects.
  • Background in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience within the water, gas, or wider utilities industry is highly beneficial.
  • Prior experience in supervisory roles such as Construction Supervisor, First Call Operative, or similar positions.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite, MS Teams, SharePoint.
  • Confident in reading and interpreting technical drawings and plans.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to consult effectively with SMEs and other stakeholders when required.
