Overview

The Bristol Sleep Unit is a thriving outpatient facility for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory sleep disorders, delivering a range of sleep tests, including overnight studies and therapy sessions. The Sleep Unit forms part of the Respiratory Medicine Department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. There may be occasions where the post holder will be required to work at other hospital sites, such as South Bristol Community Hospital.

We are looking for a caring individual to help assist the Sleep Unit team deliver clinical support in an outpatient setting. As part of this busy and dynamic department, you will be required to use your own initiative and take an active role within the Sleep unit team.

This role is working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team responsible for supporting the Sleep Physiology Team and Consultants to deliver an efficient service for CPAP patients including inpatients and outpatients, and their families.

You should have the ability to work flexibly, be able to work using your own initiative and enjoy working as part of a team. A keen eye for detail and accuracy is also required. Previous experience of working in a healthcare environment is desirable but not essential.

  • Responsible for supporting the Sleep Physiology Team and consultants to deliver an efficient service for CPAP patients including inpatients and outpatients, and their families.
  • Set up and maintain equipment including Pulse Oximetry and CPAP
  • Prepare patients for consultation, check Height & Weight
  • Support the implementation of treatment plans and ongoing monitoring of CPAP treatment.
  • Support and action the set-up of new CPAP devices
  • Perform downloading, interpretation and set up on a range of diagnostic assessments:
    • CPAP downloads on device software
    • Overnight Pulse Oximetry
    • Mask fitting
    • CPAP problem appointments
    • CPAP set ups
    • Admin tasks
    • Troubleshooting CPAP queries and supporting patients on the phone and emails
