Job summary

CHS South is seeking an Assistant Pastoral Leader to join our team in Manchester. This full-time 35-hour week role runs term-time plus 1 week with a starting salary of £26,403 and pro-rata £22,710. Hours are 8:00am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid break.

The post requires NVQ Level 2 literacy/numeracy, experience with children, teamwork, safeguarding awareness, and a proactive approach to supporting students’ wellbeing and attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to a year group ensuring pupils thrive and succeed
  • Address attendance, behaviour, pastoral and welfare concerns
  • Collaborate with staff, families and external agencies on student wellbeing
  • Provide accurate attendance, punctuality and pastoral information to Governors and staff
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour, uniform and equipment
  • Offer practical support, mentoring and guidance to students
  • Liaise with parents to support attendance, learning and wellbeing
  • Maintain records and contribute to reports and data analysis
  • Lead in supervising pupils and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Support whole-class cover, break and lunchtime duties, on-call arrangements and detentions
  • Contribute to safeguarding and the protection of all pupils

Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Pastoral Leader to join our fantastic team at CHS South.

This is a Grade 4, permanent full time post working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 1 week. The starting salary is £26,403 and the pro-rata is £22,710. The working hours are 8:00am-3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid break each day.

Qualifications
  • Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2
  • Experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age
  • The ability to relate well to children and adults
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A basic understanding of child development and learning
  • An understanding of the role of support staff and other professionals in helping students fulfil their potential
  • A flexible, proactive and positive approach
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding and continuous professional development
  • The ability to use initiative, exercise sound judgement and respond appropriately to challenging situations
Responsibilities
  • Provide an identified year group of students with outstanding support and guidance, enabling them to thrive and succeed
  • Address attendance, behaviour, pastoral and welfare concerns and help pupils overcome barriers to learning
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, families and external agencies to support student wellbeing
  • Help provide accurate attendance, punctuality, behaviour and other pastoral information to governors, leaders and staff
  • Maintain a high profile around the school and promote high standards of behaviour, uniform and equipment
  • Offer practical support, mentoring and guidance to students
  • Liaise constructively with parents and carers to support attendance, learning and wellbeing
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and data analysis
  • Take a lead role in supervising pupils and maintaining a positive learning environment with high expectations
  • Support whole-class cover, break and lunchtime duties, on-call arrangements, detentions and strategic behaviour interventions
  • Contribute to safeguarding and the protection of all pupils

About the School

CHS South is a 11-16 eight-form entry, mixed, comprehensive school opened in conjunction with Chorlton High School in 2018. Our school provides a full capacity of 1200 in our brand-new building which opened in September 2021.
