Assistant Operations Manager (Primary Care)
The Assistant Operations Manager will work with the Operations Manager to ensure the effective deployment of staff, premises, and IT resources to deliver high-quality patient services across the 5 PCN Practices Surgeries.
The Assistant Operations Manager will lead on line management of the Prescribing Hub and non-registered ARRS Staff, whilst the Operations Manager will oversee all other staff. The Assistant Operations Manager will deputise for the Operations Manager when necessary.

Connexus Primary Care Network brings together five GP Practices serving 50,000 patients in the Brislington, St Annes, Knowle, Totterdown, and Stockwood areas of South Bristol. The PCN is located in the South Bristol locality of BNSSG and employs a small staff team responsible for delivering a range of services under contract with NHS England.
Job responsibilities
- Manage the recruitment and selection process for new staff in conjunction with relevant clinical team leads and practice staff, including advertising, interviews, safeguarding/DBS checks, references, and issuing formal job offers and contracts.
- Plan and coordinate the induction process for new staff with relevant clinical team leads and practice staff.
- Ensure the delivery of a workplan including probationary targets, in conjunction with relevant clinical team leads and practice staff.
- Support clinical leads in facilitating timely probationary reviews and setting targets for improvement if necessary.
- Manage requests for annual leave and study leave, ensuring these are recorded according to PCN processes.
- Manage and monitor the statutory/mandatory training programme for all Prescribing Hub Managers and Non-registered ARRS Staff, including organizing sessions with external providers.
- Manage staff sickness and return-to-work processes, ensuring records are maintained according to PCN processes and in conjunction with clinical team leads.
- Advise and support clinical team lead supervisors and/or Clinical Director to ensure good communication on performance issues and swift measures to address concerns.
- Ensure timely completion of annual appraisal reviews and training needs analysis.
- Implement processes for disciplinary, capability, sickness, and grievance issues in collaboration with clinical leads and the Clinical Director.
- Organize and facilitate team meetings, learning events, and the PCN education series.
- Provide updates to staff on policy and procedural changes.
- Respond to HR queries and support requests from staff promptly.
- Assist or deputize for the Operations Manager in organizing staff events and managing staff performance issues, including disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Conduct exit interviews and handover procedures at the end of employment periods.
