About the role

Balfour Beatty is currently seeking an Assistant Operations Accountant to join our Living Places team based in Boldon, Tyne and Wear.

This role involves assisting with management reporting and financial control of the Street Lighting PFI Contracts. As part of the contract team, you'll contribute to the overall strategy and performance to meet business and service objectives.

What you'll be doing

As an Assistant Operations Accountant, your responsibilities include:

  1. Acting as a Finance Business Partner to the Streetlighting contracts.
  2. Working with operational management on business plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  3. Ensuring compliance with statutory and company procedures.
  4. Monitoring financial and non-financial KPIs related to contractual profitability, risks, working capital, and cash flows.
  5. Preparing monthly contract performance reports, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow analysis.
  6. Assisting with quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and three-year plans.
  7. Supporting contract management proactively.
  8. Identifying and reporting on contract risks and opportunities.
  9. Reviewing and monitoring WIP and producing month-end balances.
  10. Preparing activity analysis reports.
  11. Controlling contract stock and processing month-end journals.
  12. Safeguarding assets and maintaining controls.

Who we're looking for

Essential:

  • Studying towards a recognized accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACCA).
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, with knowledge of budgets, P&L, and financial reporting.
  • Willing to challenge assumptions for accurate reporting.
  • Knowledge of risk management.
  • Ability to analyze complex data accurately.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Experience with PFI or long-term Fixed Price contracts.
